About Juke Joint 5
Juke Joint 5 is a tight-knit and busy Boston R&B band that continually wows audiences with their high energy show and dedication to early American rhythm and blues - not only performing JJ5 originals, but also a wide range of chestnuts and lesser-known gems by the likes of Ruth Brown, Louis Jordan, LaVern Baker, Don Covay, Big Mama Thornton, Little Richard, Big Maybelle, Slim Harpo, Little Esther, Howlin' Wolf, Dinah Washington, Fats Domino, Koko Taylor, Bo Diddley, and other such classic blues and R&B performers.
Lead vocalist, percussionist and newest member of Juke Joint 5 is Lisa Marie, of the Boston-based group Lisa Marie and All Shook Up. Powerful and soulful vocals - sometimes swampy, sometimes sweet and sultry - but always delivered with pure joy and a reverence for the music JJ5 loves to share.
Holding down the front line are veteran blues players Silvertone Steve and Dick "The Poet" Lourie. Silvertone Steve is a slide guitar master and member of legendary J.B. Hutto’s blues band; he also toured with rockabilly giant Sleepy LaBeef. Gritty saxman Dick “The Poet” Lourie performed frequently with the late Big Jack Johnson in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Bob Vabulas on bass and drummer Richard Malcolm make up the band’s solid rhythm section: Bob has performed with a long list of blues artists including Buddy Guy and Toni Lynn Washington; Richard has performed around the globe and toured with Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson.
Juke Joint 5 is committed to preserving and sharing the deep American roots music that we love so dearly... We look forward to seeing you at a show - dancing, singing along, and getting a kick out of our road stories!

If you’re looking for down home, old school, house-rockin' rhythm and blues, you’ve come to the right place! Juke Joint 5 focuses on the sounds you might have heard emerging in the early 1950s from some distant, static-crackling, late night radio station: jumped-up urban rhythm and blues; the raw Delta country sound just recently getting electrified in Chicago; Memphis rockabilly; and the primitive beginnings of rock and roll.
